Our 6 founding purposes have inspired
the way in
which every Chi Omega lives her life.
Below you can see how Chi Omega as a whole, and how Kappa as a chapter, chooses
to embody and embrace these 6 founding purposes.

Friendship is a primary purpose of Chi Omega. The instant sisterhood that each member joins upon initiation is an invaluable benefit to becoming a member of Chi Omega.
With our very own Sisterhood chair, we plan sisterhood bonding events year round. Most recently, we planted succulents and painted pots together, met up for one on one coffee dates, decorated our beautiful home for the holiday season, and are keeping in touch over break through pen pals. Even with each event being optional, we are always overflowing with women who are eager to participate.

One thing every Chi Omega has in common is that she has decided to pursue a higher education. It is a national Chi Omega rule that each chapter and its members achieve a GPA higher than that of their campus.
We support our sisters in this achievement through recognizing, supporting, and encouraging through the difficulties of pursuing a higher education. Providing resources such as peer tutoring and opportunities to connect with majors similar and different to your own, we ensure every Chi Omega is provided with the support and resources she needs to succeed.

When the founding purposes were being created in 1895, Career Development was expectedly the least prominent of the six purposes. But the founding members of Chi Omega knew the future importance of Personal & Career Development and it has become a significant aspect of every Chi Omega’s life.
The overarching purpose can be pursued in a variety of ways. Women of Chi Omega Kappa chapter focus on their development through internships, study abroad, practicums, and longterm projects and campus involvement.

Chi Omega has partnered with our national philanthropy, Make-A-Wish, since 2002. We support the Nebraska Make-A-Wish foundation through a huge event called Wings for Wishes.
In the spring, we decide as a chapter where the money from our Cup of Joe philanthropy event will go. Last year, we wanted to ensure that Make-A-Wish was being supported through the pandemic so we decided that the proceeds from both our Fall and Spring philanthropy events would go towards granting wishes.

Chi Omegas are known leaders on campus. Creating unified change in a widespread list of involvements is our mission. Through purposeful guidance, we support each woman as a leader by following the framework of Chi Omegas teachings.

To be a Chi Omega, it is not only an honor, but a privilege. As leaders on campus and in our communities, we must represent ourselves, and therefore Chi Omega, with a strong commitment to integrity and the values that Chi Omega was founded on.
By living out our symphony, we are able to uphold this all-encompassing purpose.

The Chi Omega Symphony
The words of the symphony are much more than something we simply recite; they are a reflection of what is
important to us as Chi Omegas and what we work to embody as individuals.
important to us as Chi Omegas and what we work to embody as individuals.
“TO LIVE CONSTANTLY ABOVE SNOBBERY OF WORD OR DEED;
TO PLACE SCHOLARSHIP BEFORE SOCIAL OBLIGATIONS AND CHARACTER BEFORE APPEARANCES;
TO BE, IN THE BEST SENSE, DEMOCRATIC RATHER THAN ‘EXCLUSIVE’
AND LOVABLE RATHER THAN ‘POPULAR.’
TO WORK EARNESTLY, TO SPEAK KINDLY, TO ACT SINCERELY,
TO CHOOSE THOUGHTFULLY THAT COURSE WHICH OCCASION AND CONSCIENCE DEMAND;
TO BE WOMANLY ALWAYS;
TO BE DISCOURAGED NEVER;
IN A WORD, TO BE LOYAL UNDER ANY AND ALL CIRCUMSTANCES TO MY FRATERNITY
AND HER HIGHEST TEACHES AND TO HAVE HER WELFARE EVER AT HEART,
THAT SHE MAY BE A SYMPHONY OF HIGH PURPOSE AND HELPFULNESS IN WHICH THERE IS NO DISCORDANT NOTE.”
